The Perks of Doing Nothing
Friday, July 18, 2008Yay!! I have so many things to be thankful for, so instead of telling you how sad I am for being useless in this world, today I am actually thankful for doing nothing.
I realized that I did not totally waste the last couple of years because….hmm well I can say that “I’ve been traveling.” Since I graduated from college, I’ve been traveling and was able to see the world, or half of it or 1/4, I guess. I’ve been to, at least 12 countries, around 15 cities in Asia, Europe, and some places here in the Philippines, in less than three years. I am very thankful for those travels now more than ever.
Thank you for the places
I was able to see historical monuments, I mean those places I’ve seen in history books. I’ve witnessed a construction of a historical monument to be (that’s what they say in National Geographic). I am thankful that I experienced the places and landmarks that shaped this world throughout the years. To be able to stand there and say to myself “wow I’m actually here!”
Thank you for the people
I’ve met some really interesting people, met other kababayans (countrymen) abroad, and listen to their stories that made me understand more, I’ve met some scammers, yea they scam tourists including us so beware of them hehe, and lastly the people who became my extended family, they have to be one of the kindest family I’ve ever met.
I am thankful for all those people, I learned a lot from them.
Thank you for the food
I ate foreign food in foreign lands. Which was nice. Eating Chinese food in China, eating pizza and pasta in Italy…hehe it made me grin a little outside and made me a crazy happy child inside.. I guess the feeling was like “I’m actually eating Italian food in Italy!”
Eating food in its place of origin is kinda cool, or is it just me? I am thankful for the food experiences and how much I missed Sinigang.
Thank you for the arts and traditions
Seeing great monuments and appreciating their artistic values. Art works. Dance. Kung Fu. Music. Books. I realized that every way of living is an art form. How people dress, or how they drink their coffee.
It’s always good to know that there are more ways of doing things, more ways of living. I am thankful to have learned that firsthand.
Thank you for everything new
To actually experience a city, small town or a province for the first time, is one of the most amazing thing. When traveling, everything I see is new.
I don’t take anything for granted, I try to appreciate a place as much as I can, breathe the air and walk endlessly and accumulating some calluses on my feet and not even care, because at the back of my mind, I know that maybe I won’t be able to go back.
Yup, I’ve learned to seize the day! And I am thankful for that.
Thank you for this
I’ve learned MORE about the world, about God, about my self, and got closer to my family while traveling.
On doing nothing
I’m doing nothing, which gives me all the time in the world to jump into any travel opportunity that comes my way. And I am thankful to that. And for the next three weeks I’ll be doing more traveling, here in the Philippines and abroad. I love my life. <3One more thing… I don’t plan to do nothing all my life so I must have some plans on what to do next, with that I realized that doing nothing gives me the opportunity to actually do anything! hmm food for thought.. haha

So I will end this by just being thankful to all the priceless experiences, and since in a few days I am all set for hmm…three travel destinations, I might be able to think of more things to be thankful for.
Yea.. the perks of doing nothing!!
